Consultation with District Judiciary and Police at district level on effective functioning of village courts

Feb 6, 2018

Activating Village Courts in Bangladesh organized consultation meetings in Bagherhat and Bhola districts in February with the District Judiciary and Police to make village courts more effective and have better coordination and cooperation. These meetings are the part of series consultation meetings started in October 2017.

The objective of these consultations meetings is to exchange views with the stakeholders, so that the local administrations know about village courts and to get recommendations from them.  Engagement with lower judiciary and police officials is critical to enhance cooperation and coordination among village courts as they can make the village courts effective and functional, given the context of over 3.2 million cases are pending before the formal courts.
