The Knowledge Sharing Workshop on Rio Conventions with NATA held on 01 February 2018Feb 1, 2018
A total of 40 senior and mid-level officials of the National Agriculture Training Academy (NATA), Gazipur participated in an interactive discussion on the obligations, status of implementation and best practices of Rio Conventions in a knowledge sharing workshop organized by the Rio project on 01 February 2018 at the NATA training hall, Gazipur.
Delivering the presentations on the obligations of Rio Conventions and status of implementation in Bangladesh, Mr. Md. Ziaul Haque, Director of DoE and National Project Director of Rio Project remarked that awareness plays a major role in sustainable development. This is also an objective of this workshop to make the government officials of NATA aware about the Rio Conventions i.e. biodiversity conservation, combating desertification and climate change adaptation.
The Director General of NATA, Mr. Munshi Mohammad Hedayet Ullah emphasized to focus on the socio-environmental consequences of an activity when it is being initiated. If we anticipate the environmental impacts after 20 years of the activity, only then we can ensure a better society for the future generation, he remarked. Mr. AS Moniruzzaman Khan, Project Coordinator of Rio project underscored the responsible consumption of resources available at both community and country level. He also motivated the workshop for taking individual responsibility for the environmental damage caused by every human being.
The welcome address was given by Dr. Md. Mayen Uddin, Deputy Director (Food Tech), NATA, followed by two presentations from Mr. Md. Ziaul Haque on the Rio Conventions and status of implementation; and Dr. Khairul Alam, CBD Consultant, Rio Project on best practices and innovations on Rio Conventions in Bangladesh. Mr. Munshi Mohammad Hedayet Ullah, Director General (In-Charge) of NATA chaired the knowledge sharing workshop. This half-day workshop was successfully facilitated by Mr. AS Moniruzzaman Khan, Project Coordinator of Rio project.
