National Project Director, Rio Project Director (Air Quality Management and Law), Department of Environment, Ministry of Environment and Forests, the Government of Bangladesh

Md. Ziaul Haque has been working in the Department of Environment (DoE) since 1996 in different capacities under several technical wings of the Department, e.g. International Conventions and Climate Change, Research, Planning, Air Quality, Law, etc. Have been involved in formulation, revision and amendment of National Policies/ Strategies/Action Plans/Acts/Rules/Guidelines related to environmental protection, pollution abatement and sustainable management of natural resources; in reviewing submitted environmental reports on different government and non-government projects/initiatives including EIA as a member of the Central Technical Committee on Environmental Clearance; in climate change activities at national and international level including preparation of climate change related national documents, such as National Communications to UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), National Adaptation Program of Action (NAPA), Bangladesh Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan 2009, Country Investment Plan on Environment, Forests and Climate Change, etc. Mr. Haque feels proud for successful participation in international climate change negotiations (Conference of the Parties, Meeting of the Parties, Subsidiary Bodies Meetings, Inter-sessional Meetings) under UNFCCC as one of the core members of Bangladesh Delegation since 2005 consecutive last 13 COPs. He completed his post-graduation in Management of Natural Resources from the International Centre for Environment and Development Studies under Norway Agricultural University (NLH).

Md. Ziaul Haque is bestowed by a happy family with two sons. Innovative thinking, successful community engagement, utilization of digital technology, travelling, enjoy scenic landscapes have always been his areas of interest.


A S Moniruzzaman khan
National Project Coordinato

A S Moniruzzaman Khan has been in the senior management and expert pool in the past 25 years at national and international level.  He is also a Board Member of Asia Pacific Agriculture Policy Forum in Korea since 2014. He deployed his capacities in wide spectrum of research and professional works as Director of Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Research (C3ER) at BRAC University, Bangladesh, Board of Director of Food Work, USA, Consultant (SSA), Regional Energy Programme for Poverty Reduction (REP-PoR), UNDP Regional Centre, Thailand, Project Coordinator in International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Bangladesh, Programme Officer of Centre for Sustainable Development (CFSD) and Teaching Assistant of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, USA. Mr. Khan beholds advanced knowledge on natural resource management, environment, and forests through his three Masters degrees in Geography and Environmental Resources from SIUC, USA, Natural Resources Management (NRM) from AIT, Thailand and Geography from Dhaka University, Bangladesh.  As a passionate environmental practitioner, he worked across wider ranging international and local organizations for coordination and implementation of several ecological/ environmental/ water resources management, climate change adaptation, natural resource management, environmental governance projects in different regions of Bangladesh. Mr. Khan is an awardee of numbers of prestigious scholarships and Honors e.g. the Royal Netherlands Government Scholarship in 2002, “Most Appreciated Student-2005”, School of Environment, Resources and Development, AIT and Dhaka University scholarship for academic excellence in B.Sc. (Hons).

Besides his voluminous professional experiences, A S Moniruzzaman Khan takes interests in international culinary, modern photography and providing innovative solutions to the development barriers. He is a charmed person with a beloved wife, working in Asian Development Bank, and a lovely toddler girl. 


Project Assistant

Md. Farhad Alam has been working in the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the past 07 years. Previously, he served as a Finance Assistant in the Third National Communication (TNC) to the UNFCCC project in Bangladesh, also involved in UNDP BRESL project as Admin & Finance Assistant, with UNWFP Rangpur Sub Office as Admin & Finance Assistant. Mr. Alam gathered experience working with the private sector in PANNA TRADING (Sole distributor of Schwarzcopf & Hankel-Germany, Lion Corporation Japan, Malhotra Saving product Industries India) as Admin & Finance Executive before he served the international NGO, BRAC, as Programme Organizer at Narsingdi District. Mr. Alam holds post-graduation in Finance & Banking from Rajshahi University, Bangladesh and also has developed expertise in financial assistance, project management support, procurement and efficient liaison with local government in the professional arena.

Md. Farhad Alam finds interest in creative thinking, achieving set goals and leading a peaceful life with his adored wife and darling daughters. 


Suriya Ferdous
Environmental Governance Associate

Suriya Ferdous is a former research fellow of a joint-venture project on protected area co-management by USAID and the Government of Bangladesh, former Senior Project Assistant in International Jute Study Group and former Programme Associate of United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and served as Head of Participatory M&E of a national NGO, Uttaran. She is a post-graduate in Environmental Sciences from Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh with good academic records in the educational credentials. Seven years of experiences in research and development, programme development and management, effective communication with local government and consultancy made herself a concise, confident and innovative professional in the development sector of the country. Ms. Ferdous has numbers of successful implementations with national and international research institutes, governments (Bangladesh, India, EU), UN agencies (UNDP, UNOPS, UNV, UN Women, FAO, UNIDO, UNCTAD) and renowned donor organizations (DFID, SIDA, CFC, SWITCHAsia, USAID, GEF) in the sector of protected area co-management, natural fibre commodity, bio-composites, resilient infrastructure, climate change adaptation, environmental sustainability and governance. Reinforcing her experiences and credentials are value additions that include “PRINCE2®Foundation Certificate in Project Management‟ designation and certifications of “Technology of Participation in Facilitations Methods”.
