Inter-Ministerial Consultation Workshop on Integration of SDGs into the 7th FYP Plan opensDec 4, 2015
General Economics Division (GED) in collaboration with the Support to Sustainable and Inclusive Planning (SSIP) Project is going to organize a three-day long Inter- ministerial Consultation Workshop on integration of SDGs into the 7th Five Year Planduring 5-7 December 2015 at Cox’s Bazar.
The main purpose of theInter-ministerial Consultation Workshop on Integration of SDGs into the 7th Five Year Planis to compare the development targets of the 7th FYP laid out in the Development Result Framework (DRF) with the indicators and targets of SDGs and also to identify the gaps and recommend strategies in aligning the national plan with the SDGs.
Earlier as part of technical assistance to GED for preparing country’s 7th FYP, the SSIP Project organized a two-day long consultation workshop on designing a Results-based M&E System for the 7th FYP in March 2015.
The SSIP Project is supporting Bangladesh priorities for promoting post MDG framework and national rollout plan for SDGs in coordination with GoB and Inter UN Agency.This intervention will correspond the UNDG mainstreaming strategy for landing The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the national and local levels, and will open the pathways to integrate the SDGs into national, sub-national, and local plans for development.
The workshop is targeted for policy makers, public planners, statistical and research experts from Government Ministries/Divisions/Agencies/Institutions, Planning Commission, Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), Implementation Monitoring Evaluation Division (IMED) and UN agencies to attend in the consultation workshop. Participants will examine and provide detail feedback with recommendation on how to integrate SDGs in the national development plan, policy and strategies as well as improve national data availability for results monitoring of the Seventh Plan and SDGs.
Senior Secretary of the Economic Relations Division (ERD) of the Ministry of Finance, Mohammad Mejbahuddin will grace the opening ceremony as the Chief Guest and Pauline Tamesis, Country Director; UNDP will spoke at the opening session as the Guests of Honor on December 4 at Cox’s Bazar. Prof. Wahiduddin Mahmud, Chairman of the Panel of Economists for the 7th FYP and Member, UN Committee for Development Policywill chair the opening ceremony. On 5 December; in the first day of the workshop four Parallel Sessions will be held focusing SDGs, DRF of the 7th FYP.
UNDP supported SSIP project extensively contributed with the GED for preparing the 7th Five Year Plan with DRF and Bangladesh proposal on SDGs to the UN, and also committed to provide to provide support to develop the national rollout plan for SDGs in coordination with GoB and Inter UN Agency. Eight implementation guidance areas were suggested for by UNDG as the basis to assist the governments and stakeholders in landing The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and SDGs at the national level, sub-national and local levels.
