    Service Innovation Fund awarded to 7 institutions

    For the first time in Bangladesh, Service Innovation Funds were awarded to 5 government institutions, 1 private NGO and 1 private university. The monetary award this year was given to the Department of Environment for ‘Online based service enhancement’, Soil Resource Development Institute for ‘Online fertilizer recommendation: automation of data processing and data updating’, Roads Division, Ministry of Communication for ‘Development of multimodal transport web portal with mobile interactivity, ‘Jiban Bima Corporation (JBC) for ‘JBC’s cell phone insurance claim payment service’, Young Power Social Action (YPSA) for ‘production of multimedia digital talking book’, Department of Livestock and Fisheries for ‘Service delivery of Department of Livestock and Fisheries through SMS’ and United International University for ‘Development of a bangla optical character recognizer (OCR)’.

    JUST holds second PIC meeting

    The second project implementation committee (PIC) meeting of the Judicial Strengthening Project (JUST) was held on 25 September 2013 in the Supreme Court to support and formulate high quality implementation strategy in order to attain Project mandates.     A major victory for village courts

    The Jatiya Sangsad passed The Village Court (Amendment) Bill, 2013 on 18 September 2013 with a provision to incorporate several new clauses into the existing Village Court Act, 2006 for the smooth carrying out of judicial activities at the village level.     Human rights awareness program for garments workers

    The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Bangladesh and Marks and Spencer jointly organized a human rights awareness campaign for garment workers in ready-made garment factories. As a pilot effort, 4 cultural shows were organized from 16 to 19 September, 2013 in Interstoff and Epyllion Style factories in Gazipur. 3000 garment workers attended the campaign.

    Taking human rights rural

    The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Bangladesh and Jatiya Tarun Sangha (JTS) jointly organized training on promoting human rights awareness in rural communities from 14 to 15 September in Dhaka. 16 staff of JTS comprising of clinic managers, counselors, paramedics, and service promoters of the rural clinics attended the training. They came from 8 clinics out of 27 run by JTS across the country.
