As part of South-South cooperation initiative a team of high level dignitaries from Gambia National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) met Mohammad Abdul Qayyum, NPD, CDMPII and Tarik-ul-Islam, Assistant Country Director of UNDP with other CDMP professionals on 20th April 2013.
The key objective of the visit and sharing meeting was to facilitate exchange of learning, knowledge and practical solutions among southern countries exposed to similar risks and vulnerabilities. Ms. Ada Gaye, Permanent Secretary I, Office of the President and Executive Director, NDMA led the team including Director, Water Resources Principal Planner - Department of Agriculture, Principal Meteorologist and UNFCCC Focal Point among others were highly interested about Bangladesh’s experience in urban resilience strategy; forecasting; early warning and community based warning dissemination; information management; cross-sectoral and inter-governmental coordination and mainstreaming into national planning and budgeting.
