Case management committees discussed
A one and half-day long workshop on “Exchange of Views and Way Forward on Formation and Activation of Case Management Committee” was held on 6 and 7 July, 2013 at Biddyut Bhaban, Dhaka with the aim to seek agreement on the CMC operation, function and impact of CMC interventions in the administration of criminal justice at the field level.
The inaugural session of the workshop was attended by Syed Aminul Islam, Joint Secretary, Law & Justice Division, Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs (MoLJPA), Barrister Shafique Ahmed Hon’ble Minister (MoLJPA) and Mr. ASSM Zahirul Haque, Secretary (in charge), Law and Justice Division, MoLJPA and National Project Director (NPD) of Justice Sector Facility (JSF).
The workshop hosted a total of 50 participants from central and pilot districts (Pabna and Comilla) including District Magistrate (Deputy Commissioner), District Information Officer-Pabna, Chief Judicial Magistrate Court Pabna among others.
Chief Technical Advisor (CTA), JSF made two presentations on “Proposed Terms of Reference of CMC” on day 1 and “International Experiences: Coordination Committee” on day 2. Following the presentation, intensive group work was organized with 10 participants each divided into 5 groups. These groups were given the task on the roles of CMC to reduce case backlog, identifying specific activities of CMC, Operations & Management procedures of CMC (Monitoring & Evaluation, Coordination with other existing committees such as District Legal Aid Committee, including possible seconded focal persons from agencies). JSF team facilitated the group work. One from each group presented their ideas, opinions, and suggestions after the group work on day 1.
On Day 2, Advocate Md. Qamrul Islam MP, Hon’rable State Minister,MoLJPA, attended the workshop as Chief Guest. Syed Aminul Islam, Joint Secretary, Law & Justice Division, MoLJPA welcomed and reviewed the points of day 1 and objectives of day 2. ICT manager of JSF made a presentation on “ICT Integration in Justice Sector in Bangladesh”. Mr. ASSM Zahirul Haque, Secretary (in charge), Law and Justice Division, MoLJPA and NPD of Justice Sector Facility (JSF) chaired the session and made the concluding remarks of the workshop.
