A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the Local Government Division (LGD), UNDP and USAID supported Access to Information (a2i) program of Prime Minister’s office and Airtel Bangladesh on 21 August at Prime Minister's Office. The objective of the MoU is to introduce m-commerce services from Union Information and Service Centres (UISC), Pourosava Information and Service Centres (PISC) and City Information and Service Centre (CISC) across the country.

With the MoU, the entrepreneurs of Information and Service centers at the Union, Pourashava and City corporation areas will be able to become Airtel retailers where they can sell SIM cards, recharge talk time and can also do mobile banking. Providing these services the entrepreneurs will benefit financially thus helping make the centres sustainable. People of rural and under privileged urban areas will get m-commerce services easily. Airtel will be offering its products and the mobile banking services through banking partners in 3000 such information centers shortly.

Mr. K M Mozammel Hoq, Additional Secretary, LGD, Mr. Kabir Bin Anwar, Director General (admin), Prime Minister’s office and Project Director of a2i program and Ms. Rubaba Dowla, the Chief Service Officer and Head of m commerce signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations.
