Benchmarking e-Governance progress

A roundtable discussion titled "Benchmarking e-governance Progress: Indicators Matter" was arranged at Prime Minister's Office on 3 October. The programme was arranged under the Innovation Forum of UNDP and USAID supported Access to Information (a2i) Programme of the Prime Minister's Office. Total of 116 Chief Innovation Officers (CIO) and Innovation Officers (IO) of different Ministries and Directorates participated the discussion.

The importance of establishing indicators of e-governance in the day-to-day operations of CIOs and IOs was discussed . More importantly, by learning about global indicators of e-governance development, CIOs and IOs will be equipped to better understand the potential of using ICTs in transforming service delivery to the citizens of Bangladesh. Finally, it was hoped that deliberations generated in the Innovation Forum will help to set the agenda for the future by making it more target-oriented towards reaching its goal of serving the underserved communities of Bangladesh.

The objectives of the discussions included informing the CIOs and IOs of Bangladesh’s position in global rankings of e-governance development; to presenting the globally prevailing set of indicators alongside home-grown indicators for measuring success and setbacks in service delivery innovations amongst others.

Abdus Sobhan Sikder, Secretary, Ministry of Public Administration, Mr. Khandaker Anwarul Islam, Secretary, Bridges Division, Golam Mostafa Kamal, Director General, Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics,  Kabir Bin Anwar, Director General (Admin), PMO & Project Director, a2i Programme,  Anir Chowdhury, Policy Advisor, a2i Programme were present along with others. Policy Associate of a2i Programme Hasanuzzaman presented the key note.
