Workshop on REDD+ R-PP validation

On November 2, 2013 a national workshop on REDD+ R-PP Validation of Bangladesh was held in Korobi Conference Room, at Ban Bhaban, Agargaon, Dhaka. The inaugural session of the workshop was chaired by Mr. Md. Yunus Ali, Chief Conservator of Forests and Mr. Shafiqur Rahman Patwari, Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forests attended the session as the Chief Guest.

Two presentations on the purpose and process of R-PP Validation and next steps as on Bangladesh’s R-PP were given to the participants to initiate necessary discussions. Following the presentations, Guest of Honors, Mr. Farid Uddin Ahmed, Executive Director of Arannayk Foundation and Mr. Ishtiaq Uddin Ahmad, Country Representative of IUCN highlighted Bangladesh’s perspective of REDD+ in light of the R-PP.

Around 120 participants from the government, NGOs, CSOs, academia, development partners, forest dependent, indigenous groups and media attended the workshop. This event was jointly organized by Forest Department, UNDP and FAO to discuss and validate the Bangladesh REDD+ Readiness Preparation Proposal (R-PP). The validated R-PP will be submitted to UN-REDD Policy Board during the 11th Policy Board Meeting in December 2013.
