The UNDP-supported Union Parishad Governance Project (UPGP) last month has provided a two-day training to 196 Union Parishad (UP) Secretaries and Union Information and Service Centre (UISC) entrepreneurs on Management Information System (MIS) in Brahmanbaria district.

The district-level training was held at Brahmanbaria Training Resort at Brahmanbaria. The training began on 3 November and continued till 28 November.

Through the training, the UP secretaries and UISC entrepreneurs were capacitated on the use and maintenance of integrated accounting software and MIS of UPs, while also improving their basic skills and knowledge on computer.

At the training, details of the accounting and MIS pilot programme were demonstrated. These will help ensure financial accountability and transparency of UPs through establishing an effective flow of information from UP to central level. It is expected that through the training, the capacity of UPs to deliver the services to communities will be improved further.

Mr. Khaliur Rahman, Deputy Director, Local Government (DDLG), Brahmanbaria inaugurated the training as chief guest.

Stressing the need for an effective MIS system in UP, he said that it will enable the UPs to be effective and more accountable at providing service to Local Government Institution (LGI),  which in turn will ensure financial accountability and transparency of UPs.

“It will help at achieving a complete financial picture as well as audit and governance related information from UPs,” he added.

The UP Secretaries and UISC entreprenuers of nine Upazila Parishads (UZPs) under the district were trained in seven batches (each batch consisting of 30 participants).
