Honorable Prime Minister inaugurates “Civil Service in Development Innovation-2016” Summit

On 28 July 2016, the Honorable Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh H.E Sheikh Hasina has inaugurated an international summit titled ‘Civil Service in Development Innovaation-2016” Summit in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novo Theatre located in Dhaka. This summit has been jointly organized by the Cabinet Division, the Ministry of Public Administration, and the Access to Information (a2i) Programme. The Special Guests in this event included the Country Director of UNDP Bangladesh Ms. Pauline Tamesis, the Principal Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office Mr. Abul Kalam Azad, the honorable minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology Architect Yafes Osman, and the honorable minister of the Ministry of Public Administration Syed Ashraful Islam. The inauguration programme was chaired by the Cabinet Secretary Mr. Mohammad Shafiul Alam and the welcome speech was delivered by the Director General (Admin) of the Prime Minister’s Office and the Project Director of a2i Programme Mr. Kabir Bin Anwar.

After inaugurating the 2-day summit, the Honorable Prime Minister visited the stalls developed showcasing innovations from important sectors like agriculture, health, citizen service, education, financial inclusion, and accessibility. Also in the inauguration session, a video documentary titled “Rupantorer Golpo” (meaning Story of Change) was displayed showcasing the success of the government’s innovative initiatives.

The public service providers at field level are conceptualizing and implementing new innovative initiatives on the way to realize the ‘Digital Bangladesh’ vision. To give these activities due recognition, 3 districts (namely Brahmanbaria, Jessore, and Chittagong) from 64 districts and 1 district (namely Dhaka) from 8 divisions have been nominated as the best performers. Deputy Commissioner of the 3 districts – Dr. Md. Mosharrof Hossain, Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir, and Mr. Mezbah Uddin – and Divisional Commissioner of Dhaka mr. Helal Uddin Ahmed received crest and certificate from the hands of the Honorable Prime Minister on behalf of their offices. 

The ministries/divisions and field administration have already undertaken various types of innovative initiatives to realize the government-declared ‘Digital Bangladesh’ vision. And this is the first time that such an international summit has been held to showcase such initiatives. A total of five seminars were held on the first day of the summit. Important and famous individuals have done detailed thematic discussions. It is expected that the findings from the seminars will play an important role in implementing the ‘Digital Bangladesh’ vision.

It is mentionable here that tomorrow 29 July in the second and final day of the “Civil Service in Development Innovation-2016” Summit, the closing ceremony will be graced by the presence of Mr. Sajib Ahmed Wazed, the ICT Advisor to the Honorable Prime Minister. Tomorrow, the summit will be open to all between 10am and 5pm at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novo Theatre.
