  • Village Courts project continues in 1,080 unions thanks to the partnership between the European Union and GoB Apr 26, 2017

    Success of the Activating Village Courts project, which in the previous seven years provided access to justice to over seven (7) million people mainly in rural areas, have led to an increased interest of the domestic and international public and the continuation of the partnership between the Government of Bangladesh, the European Union and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The European Union finances with close to 40 million Euros, as said at an event today in Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka, for the two phases of the Village Courts project implemented throughout the country, including the three districts in the CHT. The Government of Bangladesh is providing additional USD 5 million for the project to ensure access to justice to the most vulnerable and poor.

  • Bangladesh Improves in Human Development Index Apr 26, 2017

    Bangladesh moved up three spots and ranked 139th out of 188 countries in Global Human Development Index (HDI) 2015, says the Human Development Report (HDR) 2016 launched today (Wednesday, 5 April 2017) at NEC Conference Room, Planning Commission in Dhaka. As per HDR 2015, Bangladesh’s position was 142nd out of 188 countries.

  • New project launched to reduce climate vulnerabilities of coastal communities Mar 22, 2017

    Bangladesh is one of the most climate vulnerable countries in the world. The country is frequently subjected to cyclones, floods, and storm surges due to the adverse impact of climate change. Coastal mangroves are playing significant role in protecting the life and livelihoods of the millions of vulnerable coastal populations from climate induced extreme weather events.  Through this project, over 650 ha of mangroves will be planted, 112 ha of Fish-Fruit-Forest model will be demonstrated and about 60,000 climate vulnerable poor people will be benefitted through diversified climate resilient livelihoods options in five highly climate vulnerable coastal districts 

  • Exploring Good Practices on Human Rights Advocacy and Applying Human Rights Based Approach (HRBA)

    UNDP’s Human Rights Programme (HRP), organized a workshop titled “Mapping of Human Rights Good Practices of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Applications of HRBA” at Daily Star Bhaban, Dhaka. Around 27 representatives from national and local level CSOs participated in the workshop. The aim was twofold - to promote application of HRBA and to better understand locally used human rights advocacy tools and identify existing gaps.
