May 17, 2014, Dhaka: Mr. Haoliang Xu, the Assistant Administrator and Director for the Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific (RBAP), of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), arrived in Dhaka this afternoon.
Mr. Xu is visiting Dhaka as part of a multiple country visit to the region.
The five-day visit of the Regional Director of UNDP is important to Bangladesh as he will observe first-hand on-the-ground results of the strong partnership between UNDP, the Government and development partners.
He is expected to visit initiatives to reduce urban poverty, disaster management work in Dacope of Khulna, a coastal South West area of Bangladesh, as well as the community-led climate change adaptation work in Hatia. Mr. Xu will also observe community empowerment initiatives in the Chittagong Hill Tracts region.
Mr. Xu is also expected to meet Ministers, senior government officials, development partners as well as civil society representatives to discuss opportunities in the context of MDG acceleration and priorities for Post 2015 development agenda for Bangladesh. UNDP’s support to Bangladesh is the second largest in the Asia Pacific region.
This is Mr. Xu’s first visit to Bangladesh since taking up his assignment with RBAP in September 2013. He joined UNDP in 1995 and has worked in the Asia and Pacific and Eastern Europe and the CIS Regions respectively.
