Exploring Good Practices on Human Rights Advocacy and Applying Human Rights Based Approach (HRBA)
29-30 March 2017
On 29-30 March 2017, UNDP’s Human Rights Programme (HRP), organized a workshop titled “Mapping of Human Rights Good Practices of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Applications of HRBA” at Daily Star Bhaban, Dhaka.
Around 27 representatives from national and local level CSOs participated in the workshop. The aim was twofold - to promote application of HRBA and to better understand locally used human rights advocacy tools and identify existing gaps.
One of the goals of HRP is to enhance capacity of civil society and community based organisations to engage in human rights advocacy and awareness raising. Towards this end HRP will work to enhance its engagement with human rights CSOs and Community Based Organisations (CBOs) to increase human rights advocacy and leverage on their community presence. The Programme will also work with local CBOs and CSOs to develop their comparative advantages in articulating citizen’s interests and defending rights and mobilizing grassroots organizations.
In the meantime, HRP has invited applications under the challenge fund grants scheme dedicated to enhance the capacity and engagement of CSOs/CBOs in human rights awareness and rights-based advocacy. The challenge fund will also facilitate forming and promoting CSO coalitions for continuous engagement in human rights promotion.
