Formation of REDD+ Stakeholders Forum in support to reduce Deforestration and Forest Degradation in Bangladesh

To identify and outline the major stakeholders and modalities of the REDD+ Stakeholders Forum (RSF), UN-REDD Bangladesh National Programme with the help from Forest Department organized a workshop on July 13, 2017 at Bana Bhaban, Dhaka. RSF will be a entity and will be formed by the members from different stakeholders to work for reducing deforestration and forest degradation in Bangladesh.

Chief Guest of the Consultation Workshop Mr. Mohammed Shafiul Alam Chowdhury, Chief Conservator of Forests, Bangladesh Forest Department inagurated the programme and expressed his hope that this forum would work with Forest Department as a cooperative partner and play the role to save the forest in Bangladesh as a common platform.

Lively discussion held at the programme, participated by the people from major agencies including Forest Department, Researchers, academician, CMC and other relevant stakeholders and drafted eligible criteria for membership, identify area of activityy and modality of the REDD+ Stakeholders Forum. Participants identified government agencies, formal and informal forest users, private sector entities, indigenous peoples and other forest dependent communities as the main stakeholders for formation of RSF.
