Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina praised "Climate Protection and Development: Budget Report, 2017-18" prepared by UNDP's IBFCR projectJun 28, 2017
Within the Parliamentary general discussion session on 28 June 2017, Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina praised Ministry of Finance for focusing on the prospective adverse effects of climate change in Bangladesh and giving a guideline for financing the projects against the threat.
This praise followed and is directly related to the presentation of the report “Climate Protection and Development: Budget Report, 2017-18” within placing the National Budget for FY 2017-18. Finance Division published this report with the assistance from the project “Inclusive Budgeting and Financing for Climate Resilience (IBFCR)”, which is implemented by the Finance Division with technical and financial support from UNDP and DFID. This is the first ever attempt to present a Climate Budget Report to the Parliament, and among the first ever in developing nations. This ground breaking work was contributed by six ministries which are part of this pioneering effort - Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Environment and Forest, Disaster Management and Relief Ministry, Ministry of Water Resources (MoWR) Local Government Division (LGD), Ministry of Primary and Mass Education (MoPME).
Important to mention is that linking national budget to climate change related policy objectives and targeted results is one of the broad objectives of IBFCR project.

“Hon’ble Finance Minister in his budget speech discussed in details the reform agenda being pursued by our government. In particular, this year he drew our attention to the extent of damage resulting from climate change and actions required to recover the loss together with the financing requirements. He presented a report before Parliament in which he dwelt upon these aspects. If the Hon’ble MPs read this report, they will get a comprehensive idea about the negative impacts of climate change and ways to overcome them. I convey my sincere thanks to the Hon’ble Finance Minister for bringing to focus this important issue”.
