Bicycle rally held to make the city smart

UNDP, Access to Information (a2i) programme at the Prime Minister’s Office and Urban Stakeholders, in association with the BDcyclist, on 25 November brought out “Ride Smart, Live Smart” bicycle rally from Manik Mia Avenue that ended in front of the Central Shaheed Minar, prior to the weeklong “Smart City” campaign to be kicked off on 29 November 2017.

More than 200 cyclists of different age and gender groups participated in the rally, inaugurated by the eminent educationist and writer, Professor Muhammad Zafar Iqbal. Addressing the rally, he said, more bicycles would make the city even smarter. He further added, the traffic congestion of Dhaka city will be reduced by 70% if we start using bicycles for transportation. Professor Zafar Iqbal urged all to make bicycles part of daily lives to make the city environment friendly. Among others Ashekur Rahman, Urban Specialist, UNDP and Fuad Ahsan Chowdhury, a moderator of BDCyclists also spoke.

The Smart City Campaign aims to shape an ambitious, feasible roadmap for co-creating smart cities in Bangladesh focusing on building people-centered partnerships for bringing transformative change to our cities.
