Annual Progress Review and Planning Workshop of ICBA-AR

Integrating Community-based Adaptation into Afforestation and Reforestation (ICBA-AR) Programme, organized a two-day workshop on 21-22 December in Cox’s Bazar to track the progress of the project in 2017 and determine the workplans for 2018. the workshop was followed by a day long field trip to the Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Penisula Ecologically Critical Area (ECA) and Teknaf Widlife Sanctuary to exchange views with co-mangement organizations.

The workshop was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF), the Department of Forests and UNDP Bangladesh. Mr. Muhammad Ziaur Rahman, National Project Director (NPD), ICBA-AR Program and Additional Ssecretary of MoEF was present in the workshop as Chief Guest. Dr. Md. Mohiuddin, Joint Secretary, MoEF, Mr. Shamsur Rahman Khan, Deputy Secretary, MoEF, Dr. Abu Nasar Mohammad Abdullah, Deputy Secretary, MoEF, Mr. Imran Ahmed, Assistant Chief Conservator of Forests and Mr. Arif M. Faisal, Program Specialist, UNDP Bangladesh were present in the workshop as special guests.

With the aim of reducing climate vulnerability of forest dependent  ultra poor communities in five coastal districts of the country, the ICBA-AR Programme in Bangladesh is being implemented with diversified climate resilient livelihood support since 2017. Of the total 10,500 target beneficiaries, in 2017 the project covered 2310 extreme poor coastal households of whom 44% are women. It helped them to improve their income thorough fisheries, agriculture and livestock based climate resilient options.
