Enhancing cyclone preparedness in Rohingya campsSep 29, 2018
As the cyclone season approaching, emergency preparedness in the Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar is a priority for the Government of Bangladesh. Against this backdrop, a workshop on cyclone preparedness was organized jointly by the Refuge Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) Office, Cyclone Preparedness Programme (CPP) and the Inter Sector Coordination Group (ISCG) with support from UNDP and the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement on 29 September 2018 in Cox’s Bazar.
With an aim to have better readiness for cyclones, the discussion among the 120 participants from the UN, government and NGOs was focused on how to raise awareness of the early warning system and increase preparedness for humanitarian and medical response in the first 72 hours after a cyclone. Funded by the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), UNDP is providing support to the local government of Cox’s Bazar on disaster preparedness, as well as support to the humanitarian community to adapt the refugee response to the disaster prone context of Cox’s Bazar .
