DU students win Business Case Competition 2019

The winners of the ‘HSBC-IBA Business Case Competition 2019, supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).


A team of four students from Dhaka University’s Faculty of Business Studies has won the Tk 1 lakh Gold Award in the ‘HSBC-IBA Business Case Competition 2019, supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The initiative by Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC) and Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka, in partnership with UNDP, brought together 50 teams who applied their practical business knowledge and skills to real life business scenarios for sustainable business solutions.

Team  Inmates, comprising of, Naeem Abrar, Ishrat Jahan Ikra, Syed Fatin Ishraq and Tamzid Ibrahim, competed with other teams from 22 universities and won the Gold at the finale held at a hotel in Dhaka on April 5, 2019. The team will fly to Hong Kong later this year to represent Bangladesh in the regional finale.

Team XS and Team Dream from DU IBA won the Silver and Bronze awards respectively, receiving Tk 75,000 and 50,000.

UNDP was a knowledge partner at this year’s HSBC-IBA case competition. Sudipto Mukerjee, Resident Representative of UNDP Bangladesh spoke at the finale programme, inspiring young business leaders to contribute to a sustainable future.

Shitangshu Kumar Sur Chowdhury, Banking Reform Advisor of Bangladesh Bank was present as the Chief Guest while Francois de Maricourt, Chief Executive Officer, HSBC Bangladesh, and Muhammad Abdul Momen, Professor, Director in Charge, IBA also spoke at the programme.

The initiative is part of HSBC’s flagship future skills activity in Asia Pacific that aims to enhance university students’ business skills and broaden their global perspectives by taking their education out of the classroom and into a live competition format.
